Food for thought…. Win a bottle of champagne…..Join Tony Bullimore onboard!
Sunday, 11 February 2007
Dateline: Hobart Tasmania 13th February 2007

As Tony Bullimore waits impatiently for the right winds to send him on his way from Tasmania towards Cape Horn on the first stage of his solo round the world record challenge aboard the 130ft (31m) catamaran, Doha 2006, his attention has turned to what to eat during the voyage.

Down in the cold climes of the Southern Ocean, Tony needs to consume 4,-5,000 calories a day, and around 3,000 calories in the temperate climates when less activity is required. His staple diet is made up from a selection of freeze dried packs supplied by Back Country Foods based at Invercargill, New Zealand, but he also plans to take some special ingredients to make up his favourite hot curries.

As Tony says, ' A belting hot curry on a really cold Southern Ocean night can really do the trick.  Obviously, I have to watch what weight l put on board the boat, but chocolate and other sweets can provide a good energy boost and will help to satisfy my 'sweet tooth'.

Have you a favourite recipe that will add extra zest to the standard freeze-dried stores onboard? (see list below) Here’s your chance to win  a bottle of the fine Champagne, Send in your recipe for a tasty meal that Tony can easily make up and enjoy during the record attempt.  The 10 best recipes chosen by Tony will be posted on www.teambullimore.com  and each winner will be presented with a bottle of champagne.

Remember though that the cooking facilities onboard Doha 2006, are limited to a single burner stove, so everything has to be cooked in a saucepan or pressure cooker.
