Dateline 25th January: Hobart Tasmania


The High Pressure system sitting stubbornly right over Tasmania is blocking all hopes Tony Bullimore has for starting his solo round the world record attempt in the immediate future. “It is lovely summer weather here. Perfect for topping up a sun tan, but no good for setting speed records.” Said Tony today. 

Instead, the British yachtsman continues to go the Oceana gym each day to build up his stamina levels and spends his spare time tweaking equipment on board his 102ft (31m) catamaran Doha 2006 in preparation for a first trial sail to test new gennakers and repairs made the to boat’s giant mainsail, "l am going to take out some members from the Bellerive YC who have been helping me to prepare for this challenge. They have done a fantastic job and will get a real buzz from sailing aboard one of the world’s fastest boats – once the winds fill in again!

It is very frustrating, but I am not prepared to leave until Lee Bruce, our American weather router is confident that I can hook up with a series of  low pressure systems that will carry me all the way to Cape Horn. This is a tough record to crack and there is no room for half chances. I will only go when Lee gives me the green light.” Bullimore confirmed
