Dateline 23rd January: Hobart, Tasmania Ian Jeffery, a 34 year old British doctor currently practicing in Hobart, Tasmania, has joined the Team Bullimore Round the World Challenge as emergency and advisory medical practitioner for the project. A keen sportsman in his own right and champion swimmer from his University days, he is well aware of the medical problems that can arise when sailing singlehanded over long distances. Ian has given Tony a clean bill of health and re-built the medical chest onboard his 102ft (31m) catamaran Doha 2006. He will be on call to Tony throughout the 70 day record attempt, providing medical advice via email and satellite telephone. Tony says, "Ian is a great guy and will be there, if I ever need assistance", and added, “I am very pleased to have someone so professional to call on.” Meanwhile, the wait for the right wind conditions to fill in over Tasmania continues. “I’m itching to get going but I am not prepared to leave until Lee Bruce, our weather router is confident that I can hook into a series of low pressure systems that will carry me all the way to Cape Horn.” Tony confirmed. |
