Dateline 29th December – Hobart, Tasmania
Team Bullimore has postponed going on standby for Tony’s attempt to break the 70 day barrier for sailing solo non stop around the world until all the yachts competing in the annual Sydney - Hobart classic have finished the race. “We’ve taken local advice, and decided that it might be just too dangerous to set out from Hobart’s Iron Pot lighthouse at the mouth of the Derwent River with these race yachts still coming across Storm Bay from Sydney” said Barry Pickthall, Team Bullimore’s spokesman today. Doha 2006, Bullimore’s 102ft (31m) catamaran had her mast re-stepped on Thursday, and Tony and his team have spent the past two days bending on the sails and stowing stores and equipment in readiness for the record attempt. “We are now looking to step up to amber alert early in the New Year and then wait for Lee Bruce our weather router to signal a start date that will hook Tony into a series of favourable weather systems to slingshot him across the Pacific to Cape Horn.” Barry Pickthall confirmed For further details and interview requests with Tony Bullimore contact: Barry Pickthall – Team Bullimore +44 7768 395719 This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Bruce Montgomery – Hobart +61 (0)428 369 998 +61(0)3 6231 0727 |
