Latest weather update from Lee Bruce: The trend over the next 12 hours should be for the wind to back through north, to northwest and weaken.
During Tony Bullimore’s round the world record attempt, he will be advised on a daily – if not hourly basis- by American weather guru Lee Bruce. Growing up in the USA state of Minnesota fueled Lee’s fascination with weather. Volatile weather conditions of the region—from blizzards to tornadoes—underscored the importance of accurate weather forecasts and prompted him to pursue a vocation in meteorology. Bruce’s twenty-year career as a US Air Force meteorologist included tours of duty at a variety of US bases, plus assignments in Japan and Korea. His work focused on tactical weather support, taking him throughout the Pacific Rim, to Italy and Uruguay. Air Force honors include five USAF Meritorious Service Medals and the prestigious Air Weather Service Pierce Award (presented annually to the best forecaster in the USAF). In December of 1996, Lee joined Bob Rice’s select team of forecasters. He worked with the well-known weather router for two years providing global forecasts to a variety of clients, including some of sailing’s ocean racing elite. Bruce set up his own Tactical Weather Service in May of 1999, specializing in weather for ocean racing and ocean rowing. For further information, contact
