| Date | May 22 2007 06:12GMT | | Position | 036° 17'S 170° 32'W | | Speed | 6.0 knots | | Course | 224 Degrees True | | Wind Conditions | SE 8 knots | "One week it is gale force, the next it is all calm. Welcome to the Pacific waters that border the Southern Ocean! You wouldn't believe it. The seas here are almost flat calm" British yachtsman Tony Bullimore reported via his Blue Ocean Wireless satellite phone yesterday. "I've got around 3knots of wind, and Doha is doing about 3knots! Now almost 750 miles due east of Auckland, Doha's speed has increased to 6 knots.
Lee Bruce, Team Bullimore's weather router predicts another day of calms before fresher northerly winds fill in on Wednesday. His advise to Tony overnight is: "Light wind should back to NW and WNW, forcing more south in your course. That's OK to a point. I'd like to limit the southing to about 37N, so you have some breathing room once a fresh N to NNE wind sets in on the 23rd. We may still be able to manage things from 38S, but it would mean pointing higher once the N/NNE breeze fills in. So don't worry too much about squeezing another knot out of Doha for the next 24 hours."
