Welcome north easterly winds have given British yachtsman Tony Bullimore the opportunity to head west towards Auckland, New Zealand. But he and his 102ft catamaran Doha are not quite home and dry yet.

Lee Bruce, Team Bullimore's weather router advised: "Wind will back and weaken over the next 24 hours.  As wind becomes light from the east, suggest staying on port to get a bit of southing.

Wind will later become light NE, at which time we should swap to starboard.  We can stay with that as the breeze backs to moderate NW.  The longer range outlook brings a south component to the wind, so getting in some south before that will help.  But we'll have time to deal with the plan over the next couple of days.

Today, the wind should become ESE 10kt by 12:00 GMT, and ENE 10kt by18:00GMT.  So, sail best safety/speed/comfort compromise as the wind backs, and we'll make further adjustments tomorrow."
