Tony Bullimore is now making some northerly progress after a frustrating day yesterday spent tacking into a fluctuating winds on his way NE to New Zealand. The British yachtsman is heading there to repair rigging damage on his 102ft catamaran Doha that forced him to abandon the Blue Ocean Wireless Round the World Challenge on May 11.
Doha is currently 1,000 miles SE of Wellington. Neither Bullimore nor his catamaran are in any danger.
Lee Bruce, Team Bullimore's weather router advised Tony overnight: "The winds should back to W 25-30kt, then clock again to NW 35kt as a secondary trough moves through. Behind that secondary trough, the wind will back to WSW 35-40kt, gusting to 45kt. But the wind speed will be less to your north, so try to make some version of north as often as possible--even if it has to be a bit east of north such as 020-030True."
Meanwhile, Tony remains typically bullish about the future, planning a repair programme that will allow him to restart the Blue Ocean Wireless Round the World Challenge as soon as possible.
